Nordenham

 Description

Nordenham is an electrolytic zinc production plant situated near Bremerhaven, about 100 km from Bremen, in northern Germany. The plant is well located for receiving concentrate by sea and benefiting from its proximity to Europe's main zinc consumers.

 Brief history of the operation

Although Nordenham’s zinc refinery was founded in 1906, the electrolysis plant was implemented in 1972. Metaleurop bought the plant in 1988 and managed it until December 2002 when Xstrata acquired the refinery (click here to see press release).
